I've been a bit quiet, but it's for a good reason...
Well, that's a turn up for the books.....(he said, wryly)
I know it’s been a few weeks since my last edition. My bad. Things have been a little hectic with yet another secret project, that is now officially un-secreted.
I’ve been busy in the final stages of preparing my second book for publishing. I know, another book, this soon.
You think you’re surprised?
It’s somehow just managed to flow right out of me into the keyboard. Which is handy. First time round, podcasting; now, it’s all about business networking. I chose it primarily because it’s something I’ve been doing for over 20 years both as an organiser and attendee, so feel that I’ve got a reasonable level of experience and knowledge to impart which could assist other people.
What started four months ago as me taking a couple of hours one afternoon to plot out a few notes, for what could be a book, it resulted in a notepad file full of bullet points, to the tune of 2000 words.
2000 words, just in note form.
T’was then I concluded that perhaps there is indeed a book in this.
So yes, four months of grafting to produce something that I am really rather pleased with.
Just like Thanos, I've clicked my metaphorical fingers of authorhood and hit publish on the new book.
Called 'Business Networking Unfiltered - The No Bullshit Guide To Making Real Connections', it's my own mildly unorthodox take on the whole industry of business networking, and how to get more out of it.
Rather than being a dreary, mind-numbing manual written by a compliance team in a large corporate staffed by hipsters, this book flies in the face of all that and gives you a no-holds-barred insight into the industry, enabling you to work out what’s right for you.
Plus networking horror stories, tales of amusement, bemusement, and so much more.
It's available now on Amazon, in paperback and Kindle formats!
Other Stuff That’s Apparently Happened In The World While I’ve Been In My Writing Bunker
Social media expert and commentator Matt Navarra posted this today:
So it’s a case of Twitter now saying ‘you need to pay us money before you can pay us money’. Seems to make sense. To someone, possibly.
While on the subject of Twitter….
American broadcasters are pulling their Twitter usage entirely.
While at the same time the BBC also had their account labelled similarly - although Elon has now declared that he’ll change the BBC’s account to be relabelled as ‘publicly funded’.
LinkedIn To Offer Free Verified Badge
In a move that looks like it’s trolling Twitter, LinkedIn’s now revealed that they’ll start offering free verification, but not as a status symbol - it’s purely so employees of large companies can be verified that they work at said company.
It’s to combat spam accounts that claim they work at top tier companies like Apple, Microsoft et al, this’ll enable genuine employees to have a verified badge on their profile to confirm they do indeed work where they say they do, via company email verification checkers. Currently the official list of verifiable companies stands at 4000.
So this won’t do anything at all for freelancers or small business folk, but if you’re an employee in a big corporation, at least you’ll look more legit.
And it won’t cost you £8 a month either.
A New Platform Wants To Be LinkedIn For Influencers And Creators
A brand new platform called Creatorland wants to be the new LinkedIn for the creator and influencer market.
They apparently want to challenge LinkedIn by providing networking opportunities that’s catered more to the creator economy. How that’ll work I have no idea, the platform is currently on an invite-only and waiting list basis, so hopefully over the next few weeks and months we’ll learn more about this, and whether it’ll be remotely useful to those in the creative sector.
As things stand, ‘Creatorland’ just sounds to me like a theme park imagined by TikTok dweebs.
